I'm trying to check the tension on my final drive chain (not the chain in the engine; the one that goes to the rear wheel). I took off the observation plate to check the slack. When I put a screwdriver on the side of the chain under one of the rivets and push up the slack looks fine. And that makes sense; the scooter has about 8,000 miles (I bought it used). But I can get a lot more leverage if I put the screwdriver blade under the chain and push it up that way. If I do that, it looks like the slack is beyond the service limit.
So my question is which way is the correct way to check the slack?
