In the back of the helmet compartment is a small area you might not have noticed much. It's an awkward indentation that is just enough to fit a set of emergency tools (air compressor, bike tool, torx wrench set, tire plug kit):
How are they staying in place? Velcro! I added two strips on the back wall, and a small strip on each tool I want to ensure is always with me.
My first iteration involved duct-taping everything in place, but that only worked as long as I didn't have to get to anything. I also tried velcro on plastic bags, but they didn't stick as well as it does directly to the tools. I still haven't found a good emergency place for a first-aid kit, but I suspect it could fit over the 12V battery.
When placed in the back of the helmet compartment, the tools don't get in the way of a helmet nor block the emergency backup battery I place in the helmet compartment for longer multi-charge rides. It's not pictured here, but I also keep a set of emergency plastic tie wraps on hooks on the roof of this compartment, just behind the door frame.
Where do y'all hide your tools?
