how far do you go before filling up?

Being somewhat naturally cautious, I normally fill up soon after the idiot light comes on. Usually between 140-150 miles. But I'm always only putting in less than 3.5 gallons. Yesterday I filled up at 190 miles and put in just over 3.7 gallons, which works out to over 51 mpg. I think I could go even longer as the tank itself is something like 4.4 gallons.

Usually my light comes on at about 160 miles. I get about 51, 52 mpg. My computer has said 49.8 mpg since I first got it, still does.

When the fuel display blinks, I head for a fill-up. I once ignored a blinking fuel symbol on my Burgman and ended up walking a half-mile to the gas station and then HAD TO PURCHASE A GAS CAN for $12, then two gallons of gas, then walk it back to the bike. In the end, there's just no way it was worth it for me to try to get the extra 25 miles (or whatever!) out of that tank of gas.

I have gone as much as 32 miles after the fuel light goes on (and put about 3.85 gallons in). I normally will fill 10-20 miles into the light.

I assume our fuel pump is at the bottom of the gas tank, meaning you don't want to run it that far down, risking burning the pump up.

I start looking for gas as soon as the light comes on. I ignored it once thinking I had a good 20 miles or so left only to run out of gas. Fortunately, I was only about a mile from a gas station. Ironically, I was planning to stop at it when I ran out. Scared the bejeezus out of me as the bike died on a four lane road with cars doing about 50mph. Fortunately, I was able to coast it to the side of the road but nearly got run over in the process.

According to the technical manual, which I just read while looking for traction control info, the reserve light comes on with 0.8 gallons of fuel. The tanks holds 4.2 gallons.

Usually its context. If i'm in an area I know well I'll run it above 180 miles. If not, I'm conservative and look when the light comes on.

I get a consistent 60 m/g in town and 65 m/g on the road. But I have only used non-ethanol fuel. Light comes on around 175.
