Idle rpm

Just got a call from the dealer. There was no software update for my bike so they just did the normal first service. According to them the idle is set at 1400 to 1500 rpm and they did not change it. So when I get the bike back I will check to see if the oil sensor is working. I am relieved but also pretty confident that they would have set the idle if there was a software update.

I’m now curious how the system decides to upgrade the software or not.

I will check the software version when I get the bike back but I purchased my bike on 11/14/2023. It had just arrived at the dealership with 2 other C400gt's and the dealer told me this was the last of the 2023's they would get. I was just looking not interested in purchasing right then but I asked if there was any change to the 2014's and they said maybe colour. So it is possible that BMW loaded the last updates and reset the idle before they shipped the last 23s out. At least that is what I am thinking until I find out otherwise. Moto Union of Milwaukee is where I purchased the bike and so far I have no reason to believe that they are anything but honest and reputable.

Gulf Coast BMW here in SW Florida also has an excellent reputation. Same techs today as were there 15 years ago. The owner lives here in my subdivision and is supposed to be an incredibly principled person.

Picked up my scooter from the dealer today. The software version is 060. The idle was set to 1400 - 1500 rpms when warmed up. The dealer did not change it. And the Oil level display works. It says OK. So I believe it was shipped with the latest US software.

It got up to 59 degrees today so I took it for a short ride (8 miles) before plugging it back into the battery tender. This thing is awsome. Got a new weather app that predicts up to 30 days. It indicates that we will not have another day this nice until April 22. (Bummer.) I have a few improvments to make now that the bike is back home. I'm going to switch mirrors if the ones I have fit, remount my top box light switch and garage door opener. (Both were mounted with velcro but I'm going to step it up to some of that super velcro that holds 10 lbs. There is just to much vibration for the regular velcro to hold.

Looking for good weather in the Ozarks. (Maybe a trip there in the near future.)

@wspllack your software is probably up to date as well from what you posted. It looks like 060 is the latest for the US market right now.

Very odd. Out of nowhere, after ECU software update and dealer adjusting Idle speed through the ECU to the appropriate range, the idle speed is back up to 1900. I have no idea how it works, or if it is a "learning" ECU. The reason I am considering that is that the bike died during warm up twice this week. That got me thinking that the ECU may be "aware" of those conditions and adjusted the idle speed to prevent it from cutting out. Who knows? Back to the dealer.
