Inaccurate fuel gauge?

Had my (new to me) 2016 Sport out for a fun 190 miler today with friends. They were impressed by its performance, so was I! Cruising at 80mph and hanging in there on the twisty stuff! Woot!
Anyway, I may have found a real issue though? Coming back I got home with 1 fuel bar still showing at 136 miles, the orange fuel warning light had been on for 15 miles. 2.5 gallons filled it so full I could see fuel, completely full. This equates to about 54mpg. So, with a 4.2 gallon tank why all the drama? Why is the fuel warning coming on when it is half full? I did a quick search but didn't find anything here. If it's a known fault I can live with it. Or I need to take a bottle of fuel and run it until it dies and find out what is going on.

I just recently started to notice that the fuel gauge on my (also 2016 Sport) is starting to be inaccurate. Sometimes staying on completely full after 80 miles of driving, and other anomalies. I suspect it's the sender.
Just looked up how to replace it and it's very simple (for a change) since the sender is very easily accessed, under the seat near the fuel filler opening. Seems like a more or less common problem.
