Interesting Problem

So here is an interesting set of circumstances. I have owned my C400GT for a little while. For the most part it is trouble free. I had an issue with the seat material puckering, pictures were sent to BMW and a replacement under warranty was approved. My BMW dealer received the replacement seat and went to install it and discovered it did not have the light to illuminate the storage area. They told me they would get with BMW to get it resolved. They called me back today telling me that they are selecting the seat with the light but when they place the order it defaults to the seat without the light. I went out to look at my current seat, the one that requires replacing, and it too does not have a light under the seat. The BMW dealer said they can put an aftermarket light in, which I declined…If for nothing else on principal alone. I asked them to find a way to figure this out and get the seat with the light and install it. I also let them know that this should never have made it out of the factory. I want to be clear that this was a very polite conversation and the dealer is understanding and is trying to find the solution that will work. I normally do not need a light in the storage area, until the very point that I will! Anyhow, I am going to stand firm. Curious of other would do the same. I am not bashing the dealer, the brand or anything like that; I’m super happy with the bike and the dealer.

Yep, I'd stick with your position, especially given that the dealer is being cooperative. You paid for a certain spec of bike, and you should get it, and BMW should make it right. That's just on general principles.

Also, what if you go to sell the bike, and a prospective buyer happens to notice the absence of a light, and that becomes an issue.

It is really strange that the seat that needs to be replaced does not have a light under the seat. I assume they put in your vin number in the order and it shows that same seat. Were there different models of the C400gt? Other wise how could this even happen? Yours is a 2023 correct? I would want the seat with the light. I put a light in my back pack. It's not needed in the daytime but you will need it if you do any night riding. If your bike is suppose to have the seat with the light I would push for it.

My understanding is this. Up until 21, the light was in the tub. 22 onward they installed the light in the seat. I posted it on Facebook too and it turns out I am not alone. Something is fishy in Denmark! One person said they marketed the 22 onward with improved under-seat illumination, which is also kind of interesting. Maybe they bit off more they could chew with the supply chain issues and did some bean counting, the up their hands, and said screw it, put the old seat in. I'm most concerned with what is going on with the connection to the harness that is vacant right now. I have a great dealer (and the owner lives in my subdivision) so I am fairly sure this will get resolved.

A small update on the seat with no light. I'm sharing not to belabor this but rather because others have also reported that their bike did not come equipped with an underseat light. The dealer asked that I file a complaint with BMW corporate. The reason being is that starts the ball in motion for market reps to solve the problem. Anyhow, I reached out to BMW corporate, they called back and assured me that this would be resolved. The dealer has heard from corporate and is waiting for the rep to contact him. This is the issue. Their system sees the right part number. They fill out the order. When they hit submit, it reverts back to the incorrect part and will not allow him to edit with the right part number. The dealer tried to get their tech support to manage it for them and they could not correct it either. Anyhow, the rep is supposed be able to get someone to resolve it. Again, first world problem but if someone else needs to know how to resolve this, I thought this might be helpful.
