So I had the chance to finally do a really long ride on my C600. I rode from Chicago to Nashville the other week for a charity ride. All the other riders were on cruisers of varying models. I had a great time, the riders were accepting, and we raised a bunch of money for a children's hospital.
Nevertheless, I figured I share some thoughts.
It was kind of funny showing up to the staging area. I could see the WTF look on the cruiser rider's faces. The C600 seems so small next to fully dressed Street Glides and Trikes. After we got out on the rode, most were genuinely surprised at how well the scoot handled and as one put it, "that thing has some guts"
I was actually quite surprised at how well the C600 handled the long ride. We did hit the super slab a large chunk of the way, but tried to stick to more scenic routes when possible. Being able to move my legs around was a huge benefit and definitely helped ward off fatigue.
I averaged about 55mpg which is much better than the 43 or so I get riding around Chicago.
My only complaints is that my butt started hurting pretty bad after awhile and the lack of cruise control caused my right elbow and wrist to essentially seize up. I did use a throttle buster but I didn't find it all that great. I'm going to need to find a better alternative. I'm hoping to take another ride of similar distance this fall.
The one thing I did realize is that the BMW is really a great bike. I have been contemplating getting a MV Agusta Turismo Veloce or a Ducati Multistrada, but I'm really having a hard time justifying it now.
