Looking at a 2013 650 GT

Is pretty much fully optioned out 2013, 4k miles, bout $7k all in and taxes.

What should I be asking about, it's at a dealer.

I dont see _that_ much difference between 2013 and today, so i have no issues owning used.

But are there issues I should be asking closely about?

I have enjoyed the forum here over the last few weeks.

That’s right about blue book oe nada. I got that from insurance when mine was stolen and trashed. Just make sure that all of the recalls have been done. You can get info on those on this forum. I loved mine so much that I found another one, same year and color.

Also, red is fastest.

2013 has the old-style spring timing chain tensioner, not the upgraded hydraulic one that came on the later models. They were recalled for FAILURE; the springs fatigued and snapped. They replaced them (if done at all on the bike you are looking at) with one with a "better" spring, same design. Right. Jaimie had his done under the recall, and just out of warranty it failed catastrophically, destroying the head. The repair bill would have been over $4,000. BMW said "too bad".

Unless they can document that it has an upgraded hydraulic tensioner, DON"T EVEN CONSIDER buying it.

And, if that's not enough, the early variators made the 2013's pigs off the line, and the clutches were the bad early ones that also had major engine oil seal leaks behind them.

if you must get a C 650 GT, get the later, upgraded model. The earlier ones were essentially Beta Testers...

It's not that expensive for the chain tensioner replacement--I had it done on my 2013 600 sport. Less than 1K. The dealer should be able to do it for parts cost assuming not so busy in the shop. With only 4K miles, not much else is likely to be faulty. Walk away if the dealer isn't willing to make the changeout. Ensure he shows you the computer history of repairs and if the oil hasn't been changed in more than 1k miles, have him do it prior to taking the bike. Walk away several times, no matter how much you like it.

There seem to be too many other small refinements that I would like to take advantage of in a 2nd gen.

Ill just have to be more patient than I usually am on things.

Speedtoys, where are you located? There is a guy on the Google+ BMW Scooters group selling a 2014 GT in Massachusetts for $6500. There is only 1400 miles on it. Just FYI.
