New Paint for 2016 C650 GT: Ruby Red Metallic Clear Coat

This is my 2016 C650 GT.

I bought new in Dec when BMW was running their end-of-year sale. I ordered it in the “Frozen Bronze” paint scheme (which I paid a little extra for) but hadn’t seen one in person (only pics) as this bike was ordered out of New Jersey and delivered to my door.

I repainted it last month to a Red Ruby Metallic b/c the original paint was just too boring to me for a machine that can move like this and is so much fun to ride. So other than not being in love with the color choices BMW offered, I pretty much love everything else about this updated 2016 "faster" version of this machine!

Paint job looks Great! Really pops, seems like the stock BMW colors are pretty subdued and flat, even the metallic colors.

Absolutely ... "subdued and flat" You are so right. With the only other color choices for the 2016 GT being white or black, you would think the “Frozen Bronze” would be something special, but it certainly wasn't to me. Reminded me of a limousine color you might see parked on a New York city street.

Very nice, and MIT did a study and found that YES, Red is faster.

:rolleyes::p

Red looks fast sitting still ... ha ha!

But seriously the 2016 update (the 1st since the initial release) is a faster machine off the line. Here is a quote from Rick K. for webBikeWorld.com during his review:

"But the biggest and most significant surprise came as soon as I climbed on board and twisted the throttle.
BMW have updated the drive train and the CVT on the 2016 version of the C650 GT and it makes a night-and-day difference.
The scooter now has a lot more torque and power at lower RPMs and overall it's a much livelier and responsive ride -- again, more like a motorcycle and less like a scooter.
This should be immediately noticeable and apparent for anyone who has ridden an original version and then the new one.
It's everything the original should have been and when combined with the updated shocks and suspension settings, the 2016 C 650 GT is very sporty indeed!"

That update is why I purchased the 2016 ... Just wish BMW was a little more aggressive with their paint schemes so I didn't have to do it myself.
Blowing "regular" motorcycles away "off-the-line," especially HD's, is a real joy with this new toy!

Very nice! It's been long proven on Goldwings that red is indeed the fastest color. That paint job ought to add 10mph to the top end. Really pretty, I'm jealous.

Hey thanks ... well, I'm jealous of your K1100LT! So we're not even ... you're winning!

BTW ... the "top end" on the 2016 GT (can't speak for the earlier models b/c I don't own one), is computer limited to keep the bike from going over 110 MPH. It will quickly take you there with throttle left, but won't go any faster (even downhill … yes, I tested that a few times on open roads). But I did find out why … the tires are only speed-rated for a max of 112mph. Oh well, I guess 110 is fast enough

Great color! Wish lived closer to you so you could do the same for mine. I dropped it last year and picked up some nasty scratches. When I take it in later this week for my 6,000 mile service / spring tune up I'll get an estimate to replace or repair the panel. Depending on that cost, might just have to find someone who can give mine a make over like yours!

Speaking of that 6,000 mile service, does $225 sound about right? Other then changing oil/filter it's mostly inspections of everything. Estimate 2 hours work so didn't think it was too bad.

Almost dropped mine yesterday trying to maneuver around in a gravel parking lot! I would have been very sad indeed. I have to remind myself how heavy this machine is.
AS for service ... BMW shops burn you pretty good. My initial "running-in check" was quoted to me as $340.00. I negotiated them down to a little under 3-bills. For crying out loud, all they did was an oil/filter change and reset the computer.

What brand and color number? If I get a new one to replace my stolen/trashed 2013 GT (red) I will get the white to repaint it.

Don't know the number, but it's black. Doesn't sound like yours would work for me, but thanks. I'll see what the dealer says. And, good idea about looking for one before it goes to scrap.

They should have made it all red I think it would look much better to choppy looking with the red and black
