Questions on alarm and navigation

Tomorrow morning, I'm gearing up and riding my Vespa 300 the thirty or so miles to the dealer for a trade evaluation. I fully expect to come home the owner of a new C659GT. I think I've read everything that I could find in the BMW scoots and am simply obsessed. So much so that today I made a list of all the add-ons I want for my new ride. At the top of the list is a top case--I haul a lot of stuff. Two other items on the list are the alarm and navigation but Im not sure about either.

Alarm-I don't have covered parking available and although I can see my ride from my front windows, it's parked in a lot a block away. I've never had problems, I use a heavy-duty disc lock and keep the bike covered. What are others thoughts/experiences with the alarm?

Navigator iv-I live in the metro DC area and although I like to say that the road system was thrown together by politicians rather than being designed by engineers/designers I would probably get lost anyway. I currently use my iPhone for navigation but it has its limits... a) I can't see it because its usually in my pocket and b) it's not good for long trips, the Vespa doesn't have an outlet. The Navigator iv is spendy but I like that its integrated and easily controlled. What are some thoughts/ experiences with it.

Danners,
I would recommend you look and the lock system that attached to the shock mount and the bar end, and maybe lojack? If your over a block away would you really hear an alarm? Have you checked the laws for the area on sidewalk parking? some area may allow for it or even some secret space, cubby of your apartment you could secret the bike?

For the navagation, on my burgman 650 I ran power from my socket to a garmin 3450lmt; I tiewrapped the auto suction cup to the top of the brake fluid housing, it was designed the size and thickness of a Iphone and could be used on battery power for walking and gps, though I didn't use it in the rain. I am currently going tomorrow to get a ram mount setup to put my phone just above my right brake lever and will use it for my communication/GPS/Music/Radar Detector interface all thru my SENA smh10 unit. If you were to purchase a Sena10 and all the ram mounting and electrical connections, I am guessing around $300, $200 less without the SENA(?) and the garmin 3450 would be around 200(?) on ebay with auto mount; finally the BMW gps is what, 900(?)
I hope these ideas help you our

I have the Navigator, alarm and top case.
I've only got the top case because it was BMW and I wanted to keep my bike as much a BMW as possible. However, read the blog in WebBike World. The alternatives (Shad) look pretty good and are way bigger and cheaper. I decided on the Navigator because I've already had the experience where a lack of cellphone coverage threw my Android Galaxy S2 into a reboot. The Navigator IMHO works extremely well. It will tell you in advance when and where to turn. I've used it a few times and works way better than my present iPhone 5. I paired it up with my Sena SMH10 and get audible, and timely, turn by turn indications. As far as the alarm, again keeping it BMW, I went ahead and got it 'cause I wanted something and didn't want to be jiggling keys and bending to reach a disc lock. The BMW alarm is convenient in that sense, otherwise, the Xena disc lock ought to work as well. The BMW remote alarm is cool in that, when you walk away from the bike, you press a button in your key FOB and activate the alarm. After awhile, it won't disarm via the FOB; you have to insert the bike's key on the ignition and turn it to RUN to disarm it.

Thanks friends. I came home with a black C650 GT. loved riding it even in a snow storm. Glad I made it home before the snow accumulated. I went ahead and got the topcase, alarm, and nav. They go together and electronics are integrated. Thought I'd bypass the nav but got lost on may way to the dealer and my iPhone wasn't tracking or something. Couldn't be happier... well, if the weather cooperates I'll be ecstatic.

got the alarm ...

I didn't get the alarm... Maybe I should have. Does it do some tricky electronics disabling? I just got a brake lock.
I wonder if there is a side stand lock. That would make it VERY difficult to move since it locks the wheels.
