Insurance companies seldom make any sense. I got into a SCREAMING argument several decades ago with Allstate (my insurer at the time). I had traded in my VW Rabbit Convertible for a brand new, 1988 Subaru GL Turbo station wagon. They WOULDN'T even give me a quote because the car had a turbo charger.
I asked him if they'd insure a Mustang SVO, and they said sure, and they could give me a good rate on one too. This is where the screaming came in: "YOU MEAN YOU'LL INSURE A 350HP SPORTSCAR, BUT YOU WON'T INSURE A 120HP STATION WAGON?????"
I switched to State Farm (who didn't give two shits about the turbo charger, or the fact that the car had four wheel drive... something else another company wanted to ding me for) and I've been with them ever since.
