Rough running C600 then engine warning light on

The scooter was running perfectly before the bank holiday then started it up to go to work yesterday morning(bit cool, but not raining) and it idled but just would not rev unless I gave it full gas.....(but not having full power)
Nightmare journey into work as it's London rush hour and every traffic light seemed to be at red! So lots of bogging down off when setting off, then a delay, then 'wooomff'....off at full speed, then on the brakes to gain control.
I called the local BMW dealer and he agreed that he'd look at it and made a provisional booking in case it didn't get better.
Going home then changed the characteristics: Lumpy tick over and having to feather the throttle to keep it from stalling, but once moving seemed almost quicker than normal.
After a few miles it just got lumpier and lumpier then combined both characteristics of morning/afternoon - became virtually unrideable then the engine warning light came on. Managed to limp home.
Oh, forgot to mention it used nearly a half a tank of fuel to go 15 (urban)miles.

That was it.
It's at home now and I'm trying to get hold of the dealer to book it in asap, but in the meantime thought I'd post on here to see if anyone's had the same experience.

Feels like CDI to me. First I thought it could've been some crap in the petrol blocking something up.

Anyway - any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Cheers, Hilton

Thanks for the ideas. I'd already gone thru 1/2 a tank of fuel before it started playing up so not sure about gas yet.
Very impressed with the dealer's response: " Right, when you get home, dial this number and they'll come over. If they can't fix it there, they'll take it direct to us and it'll be booked it to be fixed under warranty. More than 48hrs and you get a courtesy bike."
And that's what happened.
The guy who picked it up thought it was the fly by wire throttle losing calibration(?). Does that sound familiar?
Anyway, the dealer will let me know after the weekend.
Like you mentioned; once they plug it in we'll see.

Let you know how I get on....

Cheers, Hilton

I pointed this out to the guy and he said the cables operated a rotor under the front panelwork.....was he talking cr*p?

Yep, he was. The cables go to the throttle body. There is a throttle position sensor at the other end of the throttle shaft, and this can cause problems, but, this is not a fly by wire system. Your best bet is to let the dealer read the trouble codes and he will go from there.

I broke down and bought a GS911 diagnostic tool. They are pricey but without one there's no way to diagnose much on the bike. I like the thing because it will link to my iPhone and give me critical information when I'm on the road. For detailed info and history as well as changing some parameters like clearing faults, checking engine conditions and other items. Without something like this there's just no way of knowing what's going on with the bike.

Thanks for the input guys.

Exavid, that's some tool!
Certainly looks a worthwhile purchase.
Feel a bit embarrassed for believing the breakdown guy but hey, it's with the dealer now so will wait for their more 'informed' diagnosis.
Should know tomorrow.....👍

Well, I'm overwhelmed with BMW's service - amazing!

They've let me know the scooter's fixed.
It was the throttle control gizmo(a type of electrical control switch - didn't listen well enough, sorry). *edit* Just re-read Snowdog's observation about the throttle position sensor - that's probably it :)
They replaced the sticking heated grips switch too.
Also, i mentioned to them that the drive belt/clutch was making a slight wailing sound which they agreed with and said they'd replace. They didn't want to do it right now as they say there's an upgrade going to be available so thought best not to fit a 'faulty' part but wait til they have the revised one and let me know - then they'll fit it.
All the above is done under the dealer's warranty - so I'm in the unfamiliar position of not having to pay a penny. Very nice!

They've also agreed to deliver it back to my home too.

In 42 years of riding, I've never come across such thoroughly good service. I'm impressed!

So....hopefully getting back on it tonight or tomorrow. Can't wait!!

:D

Sounds like they did it!! Excellent.

You're right Snowdog - They delivered it last night(even earlier than expected) and the thing runs superbly. Possibly my imagination but feels a little snappier off the line.
Now I can't wait til they replace the belt/clutch!

Couldn't have asked for a better result
