Service indicator

Yesterday I took possession of my C600 Sport (2012) and I have read the manual but I cannot find the answer to why the dashboard has the 'SERVICE' indicator on all the time.

"If the next service is due in less than one month, the date for the next service 1 is shown briefly after the Pre-Ride Check completes" - Not relevant as it does not go off, its always on.

"If the vehicle covers long distances in the course of the year, under certain circumstances it might be necessary to have it serviced at a date in advance of the forecast due date. If the countdown distance to the odometer reading at which a service will be due is less than 1000 km, the distance is counted down insteps of 100 km" - I take this to mean that if you have done more miles than expected the system counts down to let you know it needs a service - reasons this cannot be correct are A) It has just had a service. B) The dash does not show a mileage countdown figure (it just shows the total mileage).

"If service is overdue, the due date or the odometer reading at which service was due is accompanied by the 'general' warning light showing yellow. The word "Service" remains permanently visible." - Again not relevant as the yellow warning light is NOT on (the warning light does work on the visual check on start up)

"If the service-due indicator appears more than a month before the service date, the date saved in the instrument cluster must be adjusted. This situation can occur if the battery was disconnected." - I am left with only this option, where I can only guess that after its service something was not done correctly and the bike is confused (bless). But I do not know how to alter the next service date.

So I think my question should be "HOW DO I ALTER THE NEXT SERVICE DATE" and how long should it be set for ??

Thank you

I reset this Service Due message myself with the Motoscan app, after I perform the required service. You could do the same, or take it to a BMW dealer.

I have exactly the same situation with my (new to me) 2015 650GT and appreciate you asking the question.

What I'm confused about is that our situation does not appear to be addressed in the owners manual. Like you, I do not have a yellow warning light but do have a constant SERVICE indicated in the dash as seen in the attached photo. Any clarification about this specific scenario would be valued!

Yes, exactly the same as me

I found a trick (posted right here in this forum) that will allow you to remove the SERVICE indicator on the dash w/o a visit to the dealer or purchasing a scan tool and resetting the service date yourself.

Roll the bike's internal date back to a time before the service date that pops up when you first turn the key on. Your internal clock will then be wrong but the time can still be correct and the date would only show if you chose to cycle the INFO button to the date position. Cycle the key once after the date change and the SERVICE indicator is magically gone!

PS-this is of course not a substitue for doing the actual service the manufacturer calls for. Just a convenient way to get that pesky SERVICE indicactor out of your daily ride view.

Thank you, I will look at this as a temporary fix to stop it bugging me,
