Some pre purchase questions,

Hi there from a new forum member!
Thanks for a nice forum!

I have some questions that I have not managed to find a answer for yet and maybe someone here have the answers to those?

-In the accessories list there are some storage option below, is any of those for the top box and if so which ones? (was in a store and they had no clue)
Luggage compartment partition net 77 49 8 527 034
Luggage grid 77 44 8 527 038
Lashing strap 72 60 2 304 808
Luggage spider 72 60 9 057 579

-Have someone the optional "Aspheric mirror glass" and could tell me if it's worth it and how it "looks"?

-What is the difference (if any) between a C650GT modell year 2013 and this year 2014?

Thanks in advance for answers!

Welcome!

The luggage rack 77448550258 is required for the 35 liter top case.
The luggage compartment partition is for beneath the seat.
Don't know about the strap and the spider.

The only changes that I know of from 2013 to 2014 are:
Fix to to fuel filler compartment lid.
New color choices (and the red is no longer available)

I'm sure someone with more info will join in here to correct me if I'm wrong.

One other change: The plastic "apron" between the saddle and steering post is unpainted, plain black plastic now. In prior years, it was color-matched to the rest of the scooter and was constantly getting scuffed by boot heels of people getting on and off the scooter.

Thanks you both for the answers.
Got a great offer on a unsold 2013 and it is nice to know what I will "miss" going for previous year model.
But not so much important stuff then and hopefully that plastic "apron" might be available as an upgrade? later on because that is clearly a flaw.

I was thinking that one could have that painted bit covered in clear vinyl. That would give it scuff protection. Many new cars have clear bras applied in areas, that's the stuff I'd put on it. Other than that, you'd be getting a great bike at a good price. I sometimes want a R1200RT but then I realize my scooter has more cargo, similar comfort, will cruise at 80 or 90 mph just like the big bike does and is half the cost. I can't speak for anyone but me , but I can tell you I'm totally happy and would buy another.

Good idea but it doesn't work out that way. I covered both the U-shaped panel in front of the filler door and the door itself with the 3M product. It looked great until I hit it just right with my boot to tear a small hole (or series of holes) in it, making it look worse than just scuffs. I finally removed the vinyl off the filler door and need to off the other piece (it's not as easy as they say!). From now on, I'll just keep those two pieces well-waxed and that should help.

Someone needs to come up with a piece of carpeting. You know, like the stuff they already use in automobile interiors?

That sucks...I'd hope that it was more durable than that, but I suppose boots wasn't something or was designed for. I used to use a 3m ballistic film meant for nose cones and radar domes to cover and protect things from rocks and stuff...sounds like the clear bras are not durable in that way. Truck bed liner then....lol

Of course, you could always do a leg over rather than a step over. I use the floor boards and even with my pack on the bag seat I have no problem....and no scuffs.

But then there was this...View attachment 433;)

@Xian Forbes,
Agree, and glad that you like the modell.
I am also sold on the "scooter concept" and are now on my second Burgman 650 and a smaller scooter before those, I do not drive that "super much" and are using the scooter more for recreational thing and "freedom transport" during the summers.

@SteveADV,
Bummer I guess that is the petrol-cap cover?
I better keep wallet in the jacket to avoid that.

Got it now and so far it is good, seating my driver position is better for me than my previous one and I like the gentle "growl" it makes.
The mirror option should be standard imo. but worth the upgrade anyway.

Question, standard spring tension is for 85kg and I am 99kg and do have wife at 59kg on at times any suggestion on where to have it at?

There is no rule on what feels good regarding spring tension. I just played with the pre-load until I found a setting that was good for solo and with passenger.

Yeah, I was kinda bummed when I first did, but what heck, I've done worse. It did snap back on with only one of the fasteners and works fine.

The way I always set the preload on bikes I've had is to keep it high enough so it doesn't bottom out on bumps with a back seater aboard. That leaves it fairly stiff solo but that's also a good setting for carving a few curves. For me at 200lbs on the hoof ready for the road, that's about one notch from full preload tension.

As for boot marks on the step through cover I don't worry much about it. I buff them out with a decent polish now and then and try to keep it to a minimum but don't get too compulsive for each light scuff. The cover will get them. If it gets bad enough, I'll have the cover repainted if I can't buff it out. I'm careful with my machinery but they are designed to be used not parked and admired. It's cool when the bike looks polished and perfect but it's still a machine that's going to get rock chips in the paint and windshield, dirt and grunge in the corners, etc. One has to strike a compromise with day to day use and a museum exhibit.

Thanks for all the reply's on the last question.

Was out today second try with wife and did now try to change pre-load (for what it's worth) to second hardest which gave a good feel and almost not noticing wife on the back 158kg or 348 pounds together and it was a great change compared to the really over-steer feeling the standard setting had with both on.

So then tried to lower one more that is one above standard and that gave a bit over-steer feeling again but not more than I can live with so that will be my standard setting and for longer rides with the wife on I will take the time and notch it up for just that occasion.

I have twice got "check oil" briefly on idle and I know I did see something somewhere about it any one have a check what's up with that?

The oil sensors are not all that great on these things. I almost never see the "Oil OK" reading. Usually it just reads "----". Every now and again it will read "Check Oil" but a quick blip of the throttle and it goes away, So I assume that it is just a minor oil pressure issue and not an oil level issue. I have checked my levels and so far my bike does not burn a drop. So to be honest I just don't let it bother me too much.

I have just bought a 2013 650 which will be delivered this week and I am wondering what change was made to the fuel filler.

On your 2013 if you release the fuel filler door but don't lift it and then lift the seat it is possible to dislodge (or break) the fuel filler door of its posts. This interference was (supposedly) corrected for 2014.

Hey Speed Rush.....Welcome aboard. So, Chagrin Falls, Ohio huh? Interesting little town. Much more so now that there are 2 C650GTs in it; yours and mine. Mine is the vermillion red one you see from time to time parked in front of Starbucks with the Harleys, Triumphs, and other BMWs. What color did you get? Did you get yours from Dale in Aurora?

I checked out the 2014 scooters on the floor yesterday. The ONLY difference I see between the fuel filler doors on the 2014 models vs. mine is that the 2014 model doors aren't painted... they're a textured black plastic, just like the panel between the saddle and the steering column (the one that attracts boot heel scuffs like nobody's business). Don't see how a lack of paint makes much difference at all for this little design flaw.

On the other hand, it doesn't take much to make sure and PRESS the door back into place after fueling up your scooter. Make sure you hear the solid "CLICK" sound so you know it's properly snapped into place and you'll be fine.
