Some pre purchase questions,

I bought the Bronze Silver scoot from Sills and am going to get a checkout tomorrow. They agreed to deliver it since my previous motorcycle was 50 years ago and I need to start slow. I didn't want to test I480 at 30 degrees.

I actually live in Russell with a C. F. postal address.

I had some concerns about buying a scooter but a 1200 GS is intimidating. Both cars are 6 speeds and fast so I hope I can start slow with the 650 and not try the top end. As I get older and have bad knees the scooter riding position is perfect for me.

I didn't know Harley guys hung out at the Starbucks. Better not go there.

Thanks all for the information and the welcome.

On a sunny warm day you'll see a dozen or so bikes in downtown Chagrin Falls generally around the Starbucks. My office is in the village so I ride there from Bainbridge through "downtown" Chagrin all the time.

I think you'll find the C650GT VERY comfortable. I'm 6'2" (or at least I used to be ;)) with more than a few nicks here and there and find it very comfortable. For what it's worth, I came back to bikes after almost 40 years away and I never owned a touring bike. The C650GT has tons of power and offers great handling.

Go slow starting out and get a few hundred miles under your belt before you try any crazy stuff. PM me if you want to get together.

So done ~500km eq ~310miles so far, still cold and using it as recreational & fun mostly.

The "Check Oil" thing made me dive into the manual and it shows after 10seconds on warm engine in idle a measure that is "---" if not manage to do a measure or "Ok" or "Check Oil".
Well testing it driving and then stop wait and no tilt and toggling the info button after 10seconds it always comes out as "Ok" so I guess it might just been tilting or in a hill when I got the "Check Oil" indication, as far as I can tell it do that measure every time you stop and stand still for 10 seconds with engine idle, might be wrong but that what it looks like to me at the moment, time will tell.

The fuel-gage meter did behave strange and did not show what was supposed to be when I got it and did the first fill up, did not correspond with low fuel indicator and did not add up when refilled.

However the other two times it sort of did "compute" and I belive that it might been the not filled more than where left in thing "magic" done at shop (sold with little fuel in tank) that might caused that, time will tell.

I had a fuel level anomaly only once. In Sacramento on a 110*f day. I filled her up, but the meter did not correspond. One I shut her off and then back on, no problem. I guess every once in a great while electrical systems need a reset.

We have a dry sump engine, the oil stored in the dry sump can migrate to the engine sump, (where the large drain plug is located). That could lower the oil far enough to turn on the low quantity warning. Run the bike around the block, put the bike on the center stand check the oil it should be ok. We have a duel pump one half pumps from dry sump to engine second half from engine sump to dry sump. Never added oil but fill to the max level on the stick. Reason, oil is used to cool so more oil in dry sump more oil to cool with.

Fuel quantity, my reserve or low warning comes on between 2.9 and 3 gallons used leaving 1.2 gallons in the tank or 4.5L. So you see mine is off by quite a bit. That is ok it gives me 40+ miles (64K) to look for gas and in the USA out in the Western States you can go that far to get fuel. Like an Architect planning an out-house you must plan a head.

BWM's NEOPRENE Compartment Divider.jpg

But, a GOOD IDEA! So, I STOLE it, and made an adjustable curved one out of LEXAN for my Tmax...and 4 others by now. Any C650GT nearby who want one??? I'll prototype you one; should look like THIS:

Thank you very much for that offer, well that makes that BMW part out to a nice weight to price ratio :)
But I have to much "junk" under there for it to matter much.

Sorry for this very lazy question:
The back rest adjustment from the looks of it three different positions so where is it default in the middle?
And if any one changed it from default and tried is it worth the "trouble"?
