Hey there everyone, I have been a member and lurker here for sometime. I am super close to pulling the trigger on 2013 c600 and I want to be aware of everything the dealer should have taken care of or should take care of upon purchase.

I am aware of the anticipated timing tensioner recall. I remember reading about a few others but they have been spread through different threads. I think the info all in one thread will help ease my mind and other potential owners.
Thanks, GH

Hello Mr. Hound, (or Ms. Hound, if that is the case)

No question putting all comments in which we are personally interested into one thread would make life easier for each of us, but in as much as we do not know what your specific interests may be, try the search engine.

If you have specific questions, ask away.. Probability is pretty good that someone on this forum will have the answer.....or at least an opinion. :)

i would think that a 2013 model should have had the software update and the side stand switch replaced. so far here in the uk the camchain adjuster isn't a recall.

Thanks for the info. I am a Mr. Hound; All of my riding is on sn Aprila Sportcity 250 scooter. I spend Internet time in Advrider and the Aprilia forum under the same username.

Do you know what the computer update was for? And the sidestand, was that for stalling? I know there was something with the top case too. I have a givi top case and would want to use it on the BMW too.

Thanks again, I have too say the c600 feels like a natural progression from my Aprilia; and that's just from sitting on it and moving it on and off the side and center stands. Test ride next week hopefully.

I did have the fuel indicator issue, but the last service they fixed that. I love it.

The only factory-issued recalls that I am aware of are for the following:

1.) front side body panel flying off at speed...upgraded fasteners.
2.) top box mounting hardware sheared-off...upgraded hardware.
3.) side stand just fell off...substituted longer retaining bolt with red Loctite
4.) side stand safety switch defective...replace
5.) catastrophic timing chain tensioner failure...change tensioner (caught early), change tensioner, guides and cam gears (very noisy), replace entire bike (after failure...)

Unfortunately, that's just the problems that they have been forced to issue recalls for, they were so widespread. Search this (and the Euro) forum for all the other issues to keep an eye out for; clutch, variator, final drive chain, porous engine castings, coolant leaks from the H2O pump, gas gauge, fuel pump, strut seals, clutch shaft oil seal, etc.

They wouldn't sell me the top case/luggage rack when I bought my scooter last year until the issue was addressed. I didn't get the trunk/rack until September of last year. Fortunately, the underseat area on the GT is ENORMOUS so I really didn't need the trunk for my trip to Indianapolis (but it is a nice thing to have).

Ok so can i just buy the givi mounting plate or do I need the BMW luggage rack on the bike first?

I bought the Givi mounting bracket, comes with everything you need to mount a givi case. Just make sure you buy the right version - monokey/monolock. 2 different part numbers.

Check this out fellas...

I stopped by my dealer to check in on my Sport. We got to talking about the R1200RT rear suspension recall. When one of the guys said, "It sucks but BMW is really trying to make it right" ... Oh? How's that? ... "Owners of the recalled RT have 3 options to choose, 1. BMW will buy back your bike. 2. BMW will give you $1000.00 and a loaner that you get to keep until the RT is sorted. 3. $2500.00 and your bike sits at the dealer until fixed.

Interesting.... I'll be without my bike for at least 3 months and probably more. I'll take some cash for my trouble, yes sir I would

Doesn't seem quote right does it?

Motorrad has not yet admitted the problem, so I suppose there is no problem until your bike eats itself, then you'd get a new one under warranty. So my advice is to keep on riding until either the recall is official or your bike explodes. Either way it'll get fixed.

The RT is a "do not ride until fixed" recall, isn't it. Neither of the "official" problems, side stand switch or tensioner, have come with that kind of warning. And of course, the RT must have a much larger population of worldwide owners than our Urban Mobility Vehicle. Hope you get you bike back in great working order soon.

None of the recalls on the scooters could cause anymore then an inconvenience. With the RT it's rear suspension could fail in flight puking fluid onto the driveline or worse could completely break rendering the vehicle out of control. Imagine winding your way through a particularly nice set of curvy mountain roads when the shaft of your rear shock breaks in two, not good.

I'd think that a motor that could destroy itself is just a tad more than an inconvenience. Especially if something were to happen mid sweeper. I've not had a catastrophic failure with a cvt bike yet so I can't say what happens when the top end goes boom. But I'll guess it would upset your equilibrium. Or it could just slow down all polite like. Anyone have experience with this in a cvt?

That I could handle, maybe.... But if it's like this, we're all in trouble
