T8 torx

Today I was working on my Sport and discovered that there are T8 TORX head screws holding the handlebar control housings together. All though I have several sets of TORX bits, nothing that small
was found in my tool boxes. This is a very small size, and I jumped in the car and off to the tool store to get one. If you are the type to always be prepared, get a T8, because if you break down in the middle of nowhere in East Bumf**k. The local hardware store might not have one that small.

Unfortunately, in this countries there are many areas and roads where you can't get internet access, which means you can't buy the torx bits on Ebay. This is why you need to buy the bits before you break down. Having worked with tools for 45 years, I know that I don't want to rely on any tool bought at the "Pound" store.

Funny here in the States we have "Dollar" stores where they sell things for ------wait------- 98 cents!!

Or Harbor Freight! But for whatever you pay nothing seems to fit quite right. The T8 will be more like a T7.89 and break after the first time you use it.

Having not worked on dang near anything mechanical for a lot more than 45 years, I'm thinking my cell is my best tool. I still remember trying to rebuild a carburetor 50 years ago with my older brother and all the extra pieces left over from the "kit". Good thing we had a fire extinguisher nearby.

True, quality tools are a good investment, it's getting harder to find the quality you want. The best screwdrivers in my tool box are Snap-on's I bought 45 years ago.

There's a Sears right down the street. While they're still open I buy almost all of my hand tools from them. They're not Snap-On, but Craftsman is as good as anything else I've ever used.

Now I do have a lot of Craftsmen tools and you are better off buying from sears then then the Pound store or Harbor freight. Yet, a few months ago a co-worker was bashing Craftsmen tools saying their quality had gone down hill. I defended them and said that couldn't be. I don't buy tools very often anymore because I have most any tool I need all ready, but a couple weeks later I needed a small "ignition" wrench, missing from my set, and went to Sears to get one. Guess what, the ignition wrenches were no near as nice as my old ones. My old craftsmen were polished and a nice thin cross section to get into tight spaces. The ones on the rack were thick and had a rough finish. I guess things change. Of course Snap-ons are ridiculously expensive now, I don't know the average mechanic can afford them.

They may've been sold at Sears, but were they Craftsmen? I've seen Craftsmen tools alongside other tools in our local Sears. The Craftsmen were clearly labeled, the others kinda-sorta looked like Craftsmen, but lacked the logo branding.

That's a damned shame. Truthfully, I haven't purchased any tools in a long time, so I haven't been in the Sears store recently. Now I'm curious to go see for myself. With Sears' tenuous financials, I also wonder just how good Craftsmen's "Lifetime Warranty" would be, too...

In Canada a few years ago I noticed home Depot would take any tool from another manufacturer as a trade for their tool just to get their tool in your hands. So much for warranty.

Of course, there are lots of cheap tools at the flea market, if you don't mind a little rust. Hey! what do they call flea markets in England and
Kuala Lampur?
