Welcome All Lady Riders!!

Our forum has now matured to the point where we are adding a diverse group of folks, some of them ladies. So boys, we now have to think about our content additions and act as mature as possible (gulp, clearly not a strong suit of mine)....Your wife, mother, sister, daughter may be watching.

As one of the "guys" I can say that I think our little forum will be greatly enhanced if we can get our lady participants to, well, participate. And, frankly, it has been my experience that parties are tons more fun with gals on the premises...even if, at times, we have to clean up our act a little bit.

So, ladies, please do not hesitate to chime in. Us guys just might learn a million things or two.

Maybe this is a Texas perspective - but then again I was born and raised in New York City - so perhaps this moves beyond my local residence. What is the message here? I don't recall this forum being an adjunct of Playboy. It's been a healthy exchange of technical information intermingled with some philosophical discourse. Where there half-naked ladies? I don't recall - but that may be a function of being closer to 70 than I'd prefer. I mostly recall Skutorr's prophecies of mechanical apocalypse. The women I have ridden with over the last 50 years could give a s---t about men's adolescent and post-adolescent behavior. In their private moments and among themselves you'd be shocked about what they have to say. I was and remain a dutiful son of a mother for 66 years, a not-so-bad husband of 46 years and a great father of a successful woman for 31 years. I don't have too many issues with women. One of the most successful scooter forums, "Modern Vespa", has their "Your Dailey Scooter Girl" thread with over 11,0000 views of scantily-clad beauties and not much outcry. So dear fellow forum members I humbly beseech you to not wallow in whatever this is. Rather, to the women who ride C series bikes - tune in and contribute to our mutual enjoyment of these bikes and ignore whatever you feel needs to be ignored. Just sayin'.

For what it's worth, my thread idea came about as a result of a private message conversation I had with the female rider of one of our scooters. It sure is not up to me to set or even suggest any rules or guidelines.

The way I look at it is like the men's locker room at every country club in the world is subject to a lot more "guy" humor than the dining areas. Typically, I play poker and have a couple beers in the bar area of the locker room and often never make it to the dining areas where conversations are far less colorful. That's my choice and I am pretty sure the ladies don't want to invade our space just as we do not to mess up their locker room (which smells much better, by the way).

So, is this forum the men's locker room or the dining area? I know so few lady riders I don't know if the majority give a damn or not about comments/pictures; after all, most of us guys could care less if the gals post half naked guy shots....I think...well, not too many, anyhow.:)

We all have the choice to participate or not in this forum. It is easy to say that if anyone doesn't like the content, just don't visit and go to the other BMW Maxi-Scooter forum....of which are there none specific to Beemers. On the other hand, would we expand the membership by upgrading our sensitivity (whatever that means), is that even important and should those that take some slight offense at some of the content even be considered?

I personally have not found anything over the top (probably a little close to the edge, I guess), but admit that my taste may not be best representative of the type of info we have here. And, maybe, the gal that made the comment to me just wanted to make sure this is not a "sexist boys club" so she would feel comfortable getting involved. I assured her from my perspective it is not. We just ride that guys will be guys train every once in awhile (of which I admit to being the conductor more than once).

One of the great things about the good old USA, we get to vote via our own personal choice to participate or not. As for me, well, I will definitely try to be a good boy. I always do (try at least), but sometimes.....

I don't know what to make of all this. What is the individuals request specifically? I suppose I'll leave y'all to figure it out.

I have to admit that I now feel offended. Honestly offended Steve. not by what might happen, but by what is happening. We have had some great times and some interesting banter but it feels like we're being asked to change all that, based on one message. Maybe she should come interact with us before it becomes decided that what were doing is in some way offensive to her sensibilities.
I've had fun here, we have a great group of guys assembled and some interesting stories were shared. I say guys because I've not seen a post from the fairer in over a year. I assumed that they either didn't actually own a C or were simply not compelled to join our technical or journey/trip related threads.

I might add that there are hundreds of people registered to this forum, but in active practice we only hear from about 20 members... What should we make of that? The ladies who used to chime in didn't run off because the boys got creepy. As far as I can tell Everyone choose other activities and a select group of active riders and enthusiasts remained to keep the fire burning...that would be us.

So I suppose you'll be hearing nae much outta me going forward until this issue becomes resolved.

Later on Gentleman, and Lady, I've got bikes to build and rides and rallies to attend.

I can be reached at christianjforbes@gmail

Steve,"isms" are about political power - nothing more nothing less. I ride with a number of women who belong to women-only bike clubs. They would not let me join even if I wanted to and they don't apologize. Would they be called "sexist"? Hardly. The winds of political power have shifted to where girls can be girls but boys can't be boys. The folks who use "ism" accusations as coercive power are also the ones who define its application. Read Orwell - he got it a long time ago.

I just value good information from whatever or whomever provides the information.

The issue is closed - at least for me.

Xian - you can come back now.

Sorry you feel offended, Christian. Not my intent or anyone's I don't think. As I stated in my previous post, I personally have not seen nor read anything I thought went too far. But I guess I can understand a female wondering where we are coming from...I do not know any specifics about why she asked or what might have given her some concern. Others may have some knowledge in that area.

Frankly, I don't see anything happening that is of any consequence. A question was asked and answered (the concern about a "boys club"). Then again, sometimes writing suggests a tone that is not intended. My tone is of peace and love, Bro. Well, that is a lot of bulls**t but I hope you know what I mean.

Oldscoot, I disagree about "-isms" and definitely about old George getting it right (it's a perspective kind of thing I guess), but I like your style. I, too, want Christian back. Hey, he can't leave anyhow....too much good stuff comes from him.

I got a PM wondering if I was sorry I started this thread from someone who did not want to speak up (have no idea if it was a guy or gal...wouldn't say even if I knew). The thing I am sorry about is the way it got blown way out of proportion past any intent I had. For that I apologize.

Time for a couple beers.

Everyone here had to agree to the rules of the forum. We are free to speak, or post within the guidlines, that might allow some dissatisfied readers. If there is a person whom has a problem and does not bring it ti the webmaster, it is then thier responsibility to speak up/shut up (paste better unoffending word here)/ or leave. we all have different speech patterns that can be offensive, thats how most comedians make a living.

Way back when this forum started in September 2012 I was the 19th person to sign on and at that time the moderator had a section for scantily clad females and I mentioned to him we ride BMW's and not Harley Davidson's and we are supposed to have class. He agreed and took that section down. The pictures are not needed and do not help our image. What if one of those pictures was your daughter or your wife in her younger years, you probably would not like it. The pictures lead to unnecessary comments. If you want to see this kind of stuff go to other sites but stay here for the scooter info, tech stuff and all. I personally like your touring pictures and stories, your tech tips and modifications you have made. That is what this forum was for, to learn.
I do not care to see a young lady wearing a thong and topless hanging over a vespa and I do not think the ladies that join this forum care to see them either. The ladies that have been and left this forum did not post half naked men on scooters (maybe they don't exist) I would have been repulsed about the pictures. Would you as a guy like to see them, I think not.
If this forum was 98% female and they posted the pictures of half naked men I would be gone fast on my scooter.
This is the last I will comment about this topic

When were you appointed to lead the moral police? I hear a load of speculation and ' what if's ' but as far as I can see, none of what your citing has actually happened. It's unfortunate that your fears compel you to dictate what's acceptable and what's not to a very diverse and dynamic group of international riders. At this point all I hear is a grumpy fella yelling "Get off my lawn".

So, YOU don't want to see the pics...
What about lesbians? Don't assume every female thinks like you.

My last post on this subject is this:

I am here for the bike, but I appreciate art. and thru history, how subjective has art been. As far as words go, well, poor choice of words are what they are.
