    BMW CE 04 Service Overdue

BMW typically has an initial 600-mile maintenance as part of the schedule for all of their motorcycles & scooters. Having done it on the CE-04, it's possibly a waste of time and effort on this bike as there are no pistons to break in. The initial maintenance cycle is effectively a belt tension...

Quick, inexpensive fix for American version rear turn signals

I, too, have joined #TeamZipTie after breaking off an indicator. It's an ingenious & easy to implement idea and the sort of reinforcement I would like to see out of the factory.

    CE-04 Acceleration

Great thread! I'm a huge fan of Dynamic mode, but I use it sparingly - maybe once every month when the mood is right. I'm pretty sure if I ever have a single-vehicle accident with the CE-04, it's going to be in Dynamic mode, throttling through a turn from a stop sign. 98% of the time, I ride in...

Adding a reserve battery in the helmet compartment

I apparently lost my Sankaba J1772 plug on a ride yesterday due to improperly securing it, so I'm going to buy two more cheap EVSEs from Amazon and see which ones work without ground.

CE-04 Tire thread: longevity, range, replacements

After 3000mi (5000km), I'm getting fairly close to the wear bars on the front tires, with plenty of life left on the rear tires. Measured on either side of the wear bar, I'm currently at ~2mm up front and ~4mm in the back. I'm not sure what the brand-new tread depth is, but I'm guessing 6.5 mm...

CE-04 Tire thread: longevity, range, replacements

I think we are due for a CE-04 tire thread! Our German counterparts have one already: https://www.elektroroller-forum.de/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=29654 - so I'll kick this thread off by sharing what I've been able to glean from there. The stock tires are the Maxxis Supermaxx SC scooter tire...

    600 Mile Service

@rongrimes - Interesting! How much did it end up costing you? I did my 600mi service in December, and it came out to $264 total, mostly in labor - no fluids change. The tech here had also never worked on a CE-04 before. IMHO, the 600-mile maintenance is mostly a scam, but it's good to have the...

Skene Lights Installation on the BMW CE-04

Before allowing my kids to ride on the back of my BMW CE 04, I wanted to drastically improve its visibility. It turns out that there is a company that specializes in doing just that: skenelights.com The lights they sell have a unique conspicuity filter, which uses the motion-detecting...

Adding a reserve battery in the helmet compartment

@SeaE04 - difficult to say - finding an appropriate cable was by far the most difficult part of the project. The blog entry lists some alternatives that don't implement ground: - Chargers for plug-in hybrids: Toyota, Honda, etc. - Rebrandings of the Southking SK-EV16 - Rebrandings of the...

C 400 GT: Skene "Photon Boosters" Added to Front Fender

That makes sense! Thanks for clarifying the difference. I'll be sure to post once I get setup - it'll be a couple of weeks.

C 400 GT: Skene "Photon Boosters" Added to Front Fender

Thanks for sharing this! Mimicking your setup is the next thing on my list of things to do to my CE04. Did you try the conspicuity mode on the photon blasters? I’m curious how annoying it will be versus visible. It’s difficult to assess from the videos due to issues capturing the flicker.

Adding a reserve battery in the helmet compartment

@wspollack - with the right adapters, anything is possible! The Jackery 1000 does have a very slow recharge time though: 8 hours. It's best left for overnight charges. There is a newer 1000 Pro that recharges in 1.8 hours, but that's still a bit much. In other news, I've made a blog post...

Adding a reserve battery in the helmet compartment

Here's what the final version looks like in the helmet compartment: The Jackery 1000 without the handle just barely fits, so I need to be mindful that it's pushed in all the way so that the lid closes properly. Today, I took it for a 70-mile (112 km) ride, and it stayed put without any issue...

Let's push some feature requests on the devs of the Connected App

    - Charge in kWh recorded for trips, and also exposed in the GPX exports. I use it to model expected consumption On ABRP. - Expected state of charge at destination. It would be especially cool if it showed this at the navigation mode selection screen, as I would use it to decide which routing...

Adding a reserve battery in the helmet compartment

After removing most of the handle with a hacksaw, the Jackery 1000 now fits in the BMW CE-04's helmet compartment. The compartment lid is just barely able to shut properly in this position. Next steps: - screw it back together - sand down the rough edges - install a lower profile carrying handle

    CE-04 Killer?

The Horwin SK3 looks like a great addition to the competition - but it's a slightly different and much smaller beast than the CE-04: - Battery size: 2.52 kWh - 1/3rd the size of CE-04's battery - 6.2 kW (8 HP) - 1/5th the power of a CE-04 - 90 kph (55 mph) maximum...

Adding a reserve battery in the helmet compartment

I did a second, more controlled experiment today and was able to add 10% (7 miles or 11 km) of charge at 10A from the Jackery 1000. The EVSE charging brick did stop charging twice: once at 20% and once at 47%. I theorized that it might be getting too hot in the sun, so I put it in the shade and...
