    25 000 km engine dead.

That is disappointing, it seems there are more than expected engine failures on the C400's. I still maintain finding a good used C650 is a good alternative to the C400 series: more power and even low mileage ones are not so expensive these days. Bon chance with the broken engine!

    Reducing engine sound level

Me I wear earbuds most of the time (except for short lower speed rides). Advertised -30 db and whatever the real number is, it makes a tremendous difference, like night and day. Nothing you can do to a 650 that will have anywhere near the same effect.

Would a BMW C400 GT be right for me?

Actually I now live in California. And also recall now running into Holleeder with that other Willem, Mr Endstra, a couple of times when I worked out at Splash gym on the Looiersgracht. That didn't end well.

fuel pump failure causing camshaft damage? Wth is going on w/ this scoot?

Thanks for the update. Just one more thought: since we can't trust the dealer's 'diagnosis', there is a possibility that the engine is only out of time and not actually damaged. There have been several reports of C650's having skipped timing chains, that were rescussitated simply by having been...

    Electric Over Blanket

I've used Tucano covers on my Honda scooters when living in Geneva for 6 years. They allowed me to ride all through the winters, perfect designs and execution.

fuel pump failure causing camshaft damage? Wth is going on w/ this scoot?

Maybe get a second opinion from an independent shop - dealership will always be the most expensive option. Perhaps a used engine from a crashed bike would be a good alternative to fixing this one which, if it indeed has a bent valve and zero compression, means the timing chain broke or otherwise...

    Bullet brake!

The reasons I don't like my Sport having the automatic rear parking brake tied to the sidestand are that, (1) it does not allow me to put it on the center stand without first retracting the side stand, and (2) I can't move the bike around the garage just by straightening it from the side stand -...

    Bullet brake!

Bit puzzled why this is useful. My C650 Sport of course has a parking brake, when it's on the side stand, and to me that's more a nuisance than a benefit.

C400X Battery Replacement and Service Question

I suspect no programming required, just install new battery. Do make sure cables and connections are all good, clean and tight. Batteries in my vehicles typically last at least 5, oftentimes many more years. Still using batteries I bought back in 2005, 2010, 2015. But they do go bad of course...

CE 04 Predicted Range vs. Odometer

I've got auto cancel turn signals on both my C650 Sport and K1600. The C's works better than the K's but still way too 'slow', meaning it stays on far too long after each turn. So I do it manually, not to confuse or mislead other road users which would potentially be very dangerous.

fuel pump failure causing camshaft damage? Wth is going on w/ this scoot?

Seems like near-catastrophic damage to the engine, with a bent valve, bearings etc. So it would mean the timing chain/belt gave out. But then I wonder why they also quote a fuel pump (at least that is what it looks like from what I can see) which should indeed be totally unrelated.

Congratulations on your purchase. As for the seat, you can have it lowered at any capable automotive upholstery shop, I would think. Or by a motorcycle seat builder. Aftermarket windshields are also available at relatively modest prices. Happy motoring!

    New 2024 C400GT Needs Engine

I have a 2013 BMW K1600 motorcycle besides my C650 scooter and there are many reports of catastrophic K1600 (6 cylinder, 1,600 cc) engine failures where BMW have had to replace those engines under warranty. The C600/650 scooter engines have a common fault where the timing chain can 'skip' and...

Rear output shaft bearing failure right after rear tyre + brake pad replacement

I don't think incorrect installation of brake pads or the tire/wheel caused the bearing failure, however I am not an expert and recommend you consider hiring one to diagnose this with the shop that did the work, if you think it's possible/likely they caused this and you want to try and make...

Rear output shaft bearing failure right after rear tyre + brake pad replacement

Just took a look at my own bike. Shop is talking about one of the two rear wheel bearings that has failed catastrophically. The one thing that comes to mind is what if they installed the pads or the rear wheel incorrectly, could that cause that bearing to fail? But then you would have felt a...

Rear output shaft bearing failure right after rear tyre + brake pad replacement

Sorry to hear about your troubles. The photos confuse me a bit. The first one appears to show that there was something very wrong with the rear brake caliper/disc/pads. Pads don't cause drag as they 'bed in', much less cause the kind of damage that seems visible in the photo, so that part of the...

Center stand just started grounding often - 2020 C650GT

Did you put on weight? Maybe double check how tight/solidly the center stand rests against the stop, and check whether perhaps that stop is no longer in the same place it used to be / in the correct place? Is the tire the correct height spec?
