Long time motorcycle rider, first time poster!
After a recent long trip up to South Dakota and Wyoming in our RV, pulling a Kendon trailer and a Yamaha FJR1300A last month, we decided it might be time to look for something a little lighter weight. It is increasingly challenging to get the FJR on and off the trailer without help and having recently retired, I didn't want to encounter any mishaps with such a heavy Sport Tourer. Located a 2020 C650GT with surprisingly low miles (1382) in Portland, OR. Listed my FJR and used some AAdvantage miles to fly up to the PNW. The seller met me with the bike on a trailer and we went to a local store parking lot (Fred Meyer) to unload and do our paperwork.
The scooter was in showroom condition and he had BMW do a service just before so it was ready for a long trip home. I left about 2p, after a nice visit to Burgerville! Heading east, I rode to Ontario on the far side of Oregon, a little under 400 miles for an overnight stay. It was beautiful riding out from PDX airport but the temperature hit 106.5 across the high desert. Next morning, enjoyed the early low temps and rode into SLC where my niece and her husband and new baby live. Visited with them and stayed over, leaving to head on to Cortez, CO. Beautiful ride down through Utah, past two national parks, Canyonlands and Arches, via Moab. Hit Tucumcari the following day and enjoyed some of the kitsch and history along Route 66.
Longest leg was from NM back in the mid-cities of the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, about 450+ miles. Altogether, took me 4 nights and 2018 miles. One leg in Utah, limited to a 65 mile per hour speed limit, I managed 61mpg! Most other times were around 50-52 or so, even when doing close to 80mph. About the only thing I miss on this bike over my 2019 Yamaha is cruise control. My right hand and wrist have just barely recovered after a week!
OK, so that was a long intro, but suffice to say, love the scooter and looking forward to some nice, easy riding!
