Timing Chain Tensioner Recall

I have an appointment for next Wednesday for my first service. Wonder if they'll be able to do this recall by then or not. I'm guessing that's too soon to have new parts.

I'm right in the middle of sorting this out. Dealer wanted to replace an oil seal and the clutch assy. I told the dude that won't fix what I'm hearing. So looks like I'll be finding out soon enough.

What new noise are you hearing. I think I'm beginning to hear a high octave sounding noise as I wind up from low to middle rpms. My hearing is really bad from too many years of motorcycles, power tools, rock n' roll and firearms.

Had mine (chain tensioner) done about 6 weeks ago on my first service (800 miles). Dealer told me that he got "the only one" available in the US, and supposedly had it FedEx'ed from the west coast back here to Mass to do the replacement. I'm relieved to see that there is a recall, as there seems to have been a spate of failures at first service, and some question on whether it would be honored as warranty. I know that you have a new bike Chris (congrats), so I'd wait to make sure that the dealer has a rev 2.0 tensioner for you, whenever they are released to the dealers. Why replace a P.O.S. tensioner with another of the same vintage?

Thanks, I love it so far.

Anything I should be able to hear if my chain tensioner is bad? If there's not a recall by next week they won't actually have to replace it if it isn't bad. Just want to know what to look (hear) for.

You will hear a continuous clackity clack noise. If it goes on to long you will hear a clackity clack there goes that (broken) with an end of engine life dead on road, come and get me then replace my engine.

I've not heard either but I'm getting the sound that's mentioned and the moaning seal sound when you pull away

As to the clackety clack, dealer told me that I would hear it (on a bad tensioner) especially on pulling away from a stop (I never did hear it - they found it on inspection......2 mm over the limit). I do hear, and reported, a squeaking noise, almost like a car's worn brakes, but only on slow acceleration from a stop, not when applying the brakes. I was told this is not a cause for concern. They gave the rear wheel a couple of whacks with a mallet and said problem solved (just kidding - they heard it and weren't concerned).

I haven't heard the clackety clack or the moaning or squeaking. Only 180 miles so far though so we'll see.

Why would there be a question of warranty?

I get that sound too and a seal moaning noise when I pull away

My seal "barks" at 10mph more than moans. But it is in the area in question. My BMW tech said he would take my c650gt home and try to duplicate the sound (no luck at the dealership). There does not seem to be any noticeable issues other than the noise. The recall is good news.

So I checked in to my dealer after reading this, and to show them what's happening around the globe. Here's what I learned.
Since the recall hasn't hit US yet, they knew nothing about it..no surprise there.

My clutch did come in, but the seal kit is on backorder, to the tune of about 6 weeks. We haven't even addressed the tensioner yet. But of course that will come.

The hardest part of all this is explaining to the missus that we'll not have our bike for at least another month when all she wants is to go riding on her new bike without me on it.
