Timing Chain Tensioner Recall

I went to my BMW Dealer today here in the UK
Went to get it booked in so they could look at killing my Barking Seal :)
Guy checked my scoot on the Computer and said there is a 'Campaign' (Posh word for Recall.....) for the Camchain Tensioner.
So it is booked in for August 20th to have Barking Seal looked at and the CamChain Tensioner replaced :D

for what its worth the barking seal sound isn't what my cam chain noise is
I don't know why the seal sound would be a chain
if I start mine after sitting let it run for 30 sec to a min and just give a little gas and you can hear an absolute rattle sound that you cant miss unless you a dealer in mn
they fixed an oil leak on mine on the shaft in the clutch area I would almost think that if your clutch is getting oil on it that may be causing that noise
although I never got the seal noise im just thinking my scooter cant be the only bile with a leaking seal in the clutch
I cant be that unlucky

Barking seal? I have always believed it was the belt and also had it in my Silverwing. It's one of those noises that bothers some, but, could be ignored if you wish. Sort of like the disc brake noises cars used to have. Bothersome, yet just a noise. Don't let it drive you crazy. When your chain slaps, it will be a different sound, then you can worry(and stop riding).

barking seal??? mine still doesnt make this noise and i still havnt heard one. mine has now reached 3500 miles and fine, i am pretty sure it is just belt judder or skidding in the variator pulleys.
something i have always done with auto's when i pull away is rev, throttle off then rev again, all the scoots i have ever seen with polished belts are ridden by just pulling away and i am sure my method is easier on belts and transmision.

Mine was silent for the first 600 Miles of my ownership, but at 4500 Miles it started Barking and it is doing it more and more :(

I agree, but it's under warranty so they can fix it!

I have about 3200 miles on mine and have noticed that when I accelerate from stop I feel a judder as the CVT shifts. Anyone else experience this?

The BMW dealer here in Victoria, BC finally received the parts to replace the timing chain tensioner, my bike goes in on Wednesday. Hopefully this will solve the barking problem!

Pierrel,

How long ago did you receive your notification letter?...I'm trying to gauge parts delivery time down here in Ohio.

You probably have a little bit of glazing on the clutch, a trick to get that off is hold the brake for the rear wheel and apply the throttle for about 2 seconds you will feel the tail end of the bike squat down. Than take a ride this does cure this for awhile
Don't do this on a regular basis. When you get your 6000 mile service have then lightly sand the clutch plate and pads

I experienced that jitter your talking about. In time it cleared up. I'd say I felt it for no more than a thousand miles. I've done a load of mountain rides, some of them up steep windy single lane roads at ten mph with passenger, as well as fast highway work at 80, 90, sometimes faster , if something was going to fail I'm certain I'd have experienced it. If it's like mine you would feel a jumpyness in the bars as the clutch hooks up. Once it's up to speed it works fine.

Actually I never received a letter, I went to the dealer the moment I heard about the recall and asked them to look into it. At first they were saying that they had not been informed about this issue by the BMW main office but would check. All in all it took them nearly 2 months from the time I first complained about that barking sound and the time they actually got the part. Too slow as far as I am concerned... One of the main reason I bought a BMW was their supposed reliability and quality... Not sure if this is still the case.

I also went to the dealer in Toronto area the day after I heard of the recall and told the dealer about the recall they also had not heard of the recall. I have not received a letter either and the dealer has not called me back either still to this date. You would think BMW Canada would know day 1 and the dealers would know day 2 and get ready for the mad rush of all 163 scooters including myself.
At the same time I asked about the other recall (side stand issue) as I never got a letter about it either. I think BMW Canada does not care as they do not want to spend the cost of a stamp to advise us of recalls.
On the transport Canada website it says that both are safety issues and BMW was to advise us (but they have not) if not for this website we in Canada would not know.
On the transport website it also says the dealer will replace the side stand switch. When I went to the dealer the service advisor told me all the do is seal the switch to prevent water from entering. What did the dealers do in the United States?
