    Shop Manual For C650 GT

As far as options, it's like Henry Ford's original Model T: "You can have any color you like, as long as it's black." The BMW service manual is only available on DVD and only for Windows PC's. I'm an Apple guy and had to buy an old laptop with DVD drive to read the manual. Good news is, it's an...

Behind the right front fairing. Southeast of the battery. See the black box with three torx bolts? Thar she blows.

C 400 GT: Foliage Ride South of Albany (NY), Both Sides of the Hudson River

Enjoyable, as always. Helps me ride vicariously in my beautiful native state. When I passed through White Plains on the way to Florida last month, I filled up my tank for $6.19 a gallon. Ouch!

C 400 GT: Afternoon Ride in the Catskills Yesterday

Man, I am missing and envious of the lovely temperatures up there, for riding and playing golf. It's 73 in Rochester today and 63 in Southwest Harbor, Maine, where I stayed for twelve days. I see some Fall colors starting to show in your video.

    Chain Rail Replacement

I can't offer expert advice, but I can say I changed my chain rail without that tool, and didn't remove the "radial shaft sealing ring." I just took off the main cover and did the job.

BMW C650GT Cam Chain Tensioner replacement instructions and parts

Prevailing wisdom in this forum is the hydraulic tensioner with the oil feed line is the preferred solution. That's what is installed in 2016+ models (not ALL 2016's since the change was made in the middle of that model year). A swap to a mechanical tensioner seems like you are regressing to the...

C 400 GT: Went for a Ride Into Vermont Yesterday

@wspollack Great vids, as usual. I enjoyed riding in those mountains recently. Tonight I am near the Georgia border 490 miles from home. Maybe I can make it tomorrow but it would be way beyond my normal, which is slightly more than your casual fun ride. Iron Butt I am not. DAY 1: 275 miles...

First oil change on my C650GT

Your 2020 may be special. My 2019 drain plug has a standard, six-sided hex socket. Same as specified by webbikeworld in its tutorial, "The engine drain plug (standard 8 mm hex) uses a metal crush washer, available from the BMW dealer." Here's the link for oil change tips...

Met @Delray (AKA @DelrayBeacher) on Friday

“not all that weird” but still a little weird? Haha, I’ll take that. Great meeting you Bill @wspollack and thanks for the ride around the block on your immaculate BMW C 400 GT (he has a Royal Enfield with yellow gas tank that’s even more striking). I made it to Bar Harbor, Maine, one of the...

C 400 GT: Goofing-Off Loop Friday, & Very Short Video

Good to know. I'll keep that in mind if I'm motoring through the area. Years ago, nay, decades ago, I was in San Francisco for photo and video shoots and hustled down to the corner of Haight and Ashbury with considerable excitement. What a letdown. The only memento of the age of hippiedom was a...

C 400 GT: Goofing-Off Loop Friday, & Very Short Video

Interesting, "you learn something new every day." Glanced at your map and saw Woodstock on the bottom. Never knew exactly where that was, just out your way somewhere. A little research and I learn the actual music festival wasn't held in Woodstock. It was in Bethel NY, 60 miles southwest, where...

    C650GT chaincase removal and repainting

The infamous tensioner is not in the chain case. Chain rails are. They're spec'd to be changed every 15,000 miles to keep proper tension. PRO TIP. Don't throw out old chain rails. When a new chain is installed, you go back to chain rail #1. Info from my notes .... The four chain rails: 33 35...

    C650GT chaincase removal and repainting

I agree. BMW changed to black chain cases for later models. They look much sharper than the original gray. I've had the chain case open on two different GT's. One I re-used the gasket with a tube of Permatex gasket maker. The second I ordered a new gasket, info attached. That was for a 2013...

BMW Roadside Assistance Report: The Good & The Bad

You could have titled this thread after the Clint Eastwood movie, "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly." The ugly being the inexplicable position that "we cannot provide assistance to you." Huh? The whole point of paying them serious money is to be there -- maybe just once -- when you need them most...

    14 C650 oil change

If you're referring to the oil screen tube in the side drainage port by the kickstand, it's easy to pull out. The tricky part is re-seating it after the oil is drained. Insert a screwdriver through the tube and guide the tube in until it is flush with the opening. There is a little lip on the...

C 400 GT: A Tale Of Two Flat Rear Tires In As Many Weeks

This is excellent advice. My second flat tire in two weeks on the '16 Burgman 650 motivated me to buy a kit and learn how to plug tires. I plugged that tire and several since, and have ridden thousands of miles without incident. When I bought my first 2019 BMW C 650 GT in 2022, I flew 550 miles...

C 400 GT: A Tale Of Two Flat Rear Tires In As Many Weeks

A well-written tale. Sorry about your tire woes. I'm a few weeks away from riding up to Rochester, around 1,400 miles. I'm impressed by your 400- and 500-mile days! Any tips or secrets? 300 miles is a long stretch for me. Last summer when I rode from ROC to South Florida I had five overnights...
