Timing Chain Tensioner Recall

Get a letter from your dealer stating that a second letter will be coming as if something is to happen you have proof you went to or contacted your dealer. That second letter may never arrive. Tell the dealer to order the parts now as they may already be in one of the warehouses in the states. The first time I went to the dealer they had not heard of the recall. And they would look into it, 2 months later I went back and it was as if they never heard of me and ordered the parts, the next day the parts were in

I received the notice weeks ago and finally got around to calling my dealer. The don't have the parts and they said another letter would be going out indicating the parts are in for the service to be completed. Something is telling me this won't get done till spring. Riding season ends here about November and probably won't be getting back on the road till April at best.

Here in the UK I had my Scoot booked in a Month ago to have its 'Campaign' done.
Due to go in tomorrow I had a phone call today from the dealer.
BMW UK don't have any parts available and won't have for a few weeks.......
It's still going in to have the Bark looked at, it's been getting worse the last week or so.
Did 235 Miles on Monday and it was doing it all the time, hope it can be sorted.

I contacted BMW customer service and was also told another letter would be going out soon.

Just spoke to my dealer. The parts are available and they expect to have it for me tomorrow. As an aside, he told me that I'm the FIRST of their customers to have the 12,000 mile service done on a scooter. He also told me that all the mechanics EXPECTED that to be the case (my K1200LT is 3,000 miles shy of needing its 186,000 mile service done).

Don't know why, but I am looking forward to getting mine done even though I have no real problems (bit of a growl at 10mph when cold but that's it). Maybe it's the idea of getting the Dr Pulley's at the same time....not like I really need that either.

Hey, does the chain tensioner recall count as a farkle?;) Maybe that's it. I've only added the Kaoko and feel that maybe I need to add a few other "things". Trouble is, the bike fits me just like it is and I have no desire to mess with it.

I'm planning on drawing up plans to use the pipe under the nose of the bike as an attach point for farkles. I'm using the same design as a bicycle quill on the handlebars. If I can come up with something reasonable then you can add lights and stuff cleanly. I see a real benefit to led running lights. The Vespa has them and I can see the missus clearly a mile behind in my mirrors.

I had thought about LED lights on the dash board because I would get the buttons confused at night when I first got the bike.

Looks like I'll be on the K1200LT this weekend. The part came in too late for the mechanic to finish the job before they close this evening (or so he claims on the phone). I'll have the scooter back next week as I'm leaving tomorrow morning. :(

My bike is a BMW C600 Sport with 13,500 miles on it. I have been through the tensioner ordeal, having gone into the actual tensioner failure mode and getting it repaired. Started this past Sunday with getting the clacking sound. Was only about two miles from home. Was able to nurse it home. Dealers not open on Monday so waited till Tuesday to call BMW roadside service. Truck showed up about two hours later and took my bike to the BMW dealership in Asheville, NC. First talks with dealership made it sound like the recall repair was still in bureaucracy and there was no info in there system to proceed on. But low and behold on Thursday it broke loose and I had a repaired bike the very next day. It is back on the road. In summary my bike went down on a Sunday and was ready to pick up Friday of that week. So maybe others will have good experiences from now on. Good luck.

I just got the call - my dealer (the owner himself!) called me and said they were ordering parts -" did I want them to pre order mine"? Ummm, YES please.

just sent another email to cust serv
this is really bad that we are waiting this long
my dealer wont do anything with my bike because the tensioner is on a poss campaign
we are way past poss
my bike make noise at least 50 % of the time and entire engine is not getting any quieter
I would assume the guides are being damaged for the long term
so after all this crap we have to look forward to guides going bad in the future and paying for the engines our selves
im so pissed I cant even talk anymore

tensioner

If you are worried , don't ride it!! OR,Go to the dealer and let him listen to it, if he says "don't worry", have him put it in writing, then if something goes wrong you might have some recourse. When I worked in car dealerships this would have been honored.

Don't get pissed off just ride the bike if it blows the engine it is under warranty there is enough documentation about the timing chain problem that they would have to repair it, they are going to hassle you one way or another about the the repair if the engine blows or not so just ride the bike and try to be happy life is to short to worry about little crap

Amen to that, I'm off to Spain shortly, not gonna let it worry me unless something goes wrong, if it does I'll pick up the phone.... But chances are it will be fine...

I stopped worrying about it too.

I'm hearing a bit of noise now on my bike with 2000 miles on it. Not loud, but the sound is different than it was. I'll ride the scooter until my dealer gets the necessary part(s) to do the recall. I'll keep it close to town, no long trips with it until it's fixed. The K1100LT will have to handle the longer trips.
