X2 on the cam chain tensioner. Stop engine until it's replaced. Likely the noise will be gone but if not you have eliminated the most likely and potenially disastrous cause. Search on this site, tons of info for you.

Only scan tools that will work are GS911 and Motoscan. Get the Motoscan. And search is your friend.

Maybe try secondhand on (the Finish equivalent of) Ebay? Look all over Europe?

Maybe the mechanic can check the play in the end transmission chain to see whether it's time to move up to the next-bigger size (of 4) of the chain guide rail. And replace the final drive gear oil.

Funny, I regularly say to myself how much I enjoy all the mechanical and exhaust noises my stock 2016 Sport makes. Would not change or try and muffle any of it. To each their own, clearly!

I would count the number of teeth to get confirmation that the old and new sprockets are the same, effectively. I would bet that they are, if the parts manual only provides one option.

The link you posted is not for the timing chain tensioner - it's a guide rail setup for the final drive chain after the transmission. They wear, but slowly and is not the cause of the noise you are hearing. I replaced my transmission belt not too long ago at 18K miles and the old one was barely...

Sounds like the timing chain tensioner may be on its way out. Easy swap, not too expensive but take care of it soon.

You can try with BMW as this is obviously not supposed to happen. Most likely a manufacturing defect, if BMW won't help I would look for a good used engine from a dismantler ('sloopbedrijf').
